Rural Communities Agribusiness Initiative

Rural Communities Empowerment and Pastoral Support Through Agribusiness is an initiative aimed at enhancing development in underprivileged church communities in Sierra Leone by focusing on agricultural growth. The project seeks to empower pastors, church members, and residents, improving their living standards.

Background:
Sierra Leone’s economy faces challenges due to the aftermath of civil conflict, the Ebola crisis, COVID-19, and natural disasters. Limited agricultural knowledge and resources hinder socio-economic progress. The initiative aims to support the national economy development goal of addressing food insecurity and poverty by promoting farming, utilizing the country’s fertile land for diverse crops.

Objectives:

  • Resource Provision: Supply farming equipment and seeds.
  • Skill Development: Train participants in farming techniques and business skills.
  • Networking Opportunities: Connect participants with professionals and mentors.
  • Mentorship: Provide ongoing support through AGDA.

Target Areas:
The project will focus on rural churches and their communities, including areas without existing churches.

Rationale:
With vast untapped agricultural land, the project aims to combat food scarcity and economic issues, fostering self-reliance and sustainable development.

Partners:
AGDA collaborates with local and international NGOs, agricultural workers, and government entities to create a supportive ecosystem.

Duration:
The project will last for one year and six months rotations, covering land ownership, farming, and sales processes.

Through this initiative, AGDA aims to uplift communities in Sierra Leone, promoting agricultural initiatives that drive sustainable growth and transformative development.
